Just bought a 1988 doral cavalier, which I absolutely fell in love with at first sight. Anyways, my question, Do the electrical outlets and the fridge only work under shore power hookup? I wonder if there is an on board switch or inverter system to be able to use the outlets direct from the battery.

Re: Doral cavalier electrical

G'Day Kajo,

If your vessel is not fitted with a generator or inverter your AC power outlets can only operate when connected to shore power. Your galley fridge should be a two way unit that operates on both AC when connected to shore power and DC from your house battery when not connected. If it is original it is highly unlikely to be AC only.

I have an 89 prestancia and it may work the same way as yours. My main galley fridge works on both 120VAC and 12VDC.. The supply must be selected "on" at the electrical distribution panel though... It is highly likely that there is no 120V system without shorepower unless you have an installed inverter (that would have had to been added aftermarket) or a generator is installed.
