really the only things it can be is a bad/weak impeller or a blockage in the cooling circuit....maybe an impeller blade or even sand and silt

Don't worry I unloaded the gun. There are certain things that I always due when ever I get a new vehicle , boat whatever... the scheduled maintenace items. I don't think I ever bought anything that the seller told me I haven't changed the oil in 2 years. I hope your mechanic wouldn't lie to you but alot of them are so busy and work on so many motors that they may think it was that one that they put a pump in a year ago but it was another just like it. I'd change the pump.

If it has a poppit, and it isn't sealing or the spring is weak, it could bypass too much water at idle to let it warm up. All the water at the tell-tale goes through the t-stats. You should get at least an intermittant stream.

Fix it, or you could cold freeze the engine.

hope it helps
