doubleclick.net takes over iboats

I have doubleclick.net blocked in my IE privacy settings and popup ads are blocked. However, iboats seems to be able to override these settings. This is the only site where this happens. I've run malwarebytes, ad-aware, and windows defender, and they don't show anything. Any recommendations?

I get the same thing. The answer you will get is "Use Chrome" and the add-ins. That irks me. Rather than trying to fix the issue, certain mo.... people will just tell you to stop using IE.
Ok, rant over, I get that happen every now and then. When it does, I reload the main page and see if it happens again. If it does, I avoid coming here for a couple of days and then seems to fix it. Maybe flushing the DNS cache might help too. I haven't tried that though.

I am not a mod and I will tell you the same thing, start using another browser, that has better tools to block the stuff. I do and have never seen an ad on this website.

Re: doubleclick.net takes over iboats

MTboatguy, it isn't a popup ad. You open a thread, then when you hit the back button nothing happens. If you right click the back arrow, there are hundreds of "doubleclick" pages listed. The only way to get back is to reload the main page. It is frustrating, because I don't come on here every day. So some threads will have two or three pages. I click on page three, then two, then one. That is where I start reading, then hit "back" to go to page two and continue the thread. When it loads up doubleclick (which isn't every time) I have to reload the main and start the process over.
Sanger,
I had one of those already in my settings. I added the other and we will see if that helps. Thank you for trying to help.

Re: doubleclick.net takes over iboats

AK,

I don't see ad's when I visit Iboats, I never have, and if you read my last post, I didn't say anything about a popup, I said AD! I simply don't see any ad's on this website, never have and never will due to knowing how to set my browsers up for ad free browsing of any website I visit.

I will continue to advocate against IE, due to knowing what goes on with Microsoft and their ever present willingness to work with the ad spammers, I have been a member of the Microsoft developers network for over 20 years now, I know what their programs do, how they work and why they do what they do, their BS and POS browser is horrible.

For what it's worth, doubleclick, googleads, and googlesyndication are all blocked but google ads still blocks the browser. For those of you not having this problem, the issue is not about ads, it's about preventing the back button in the browser from working. It only happens on this site. I suspect that if it were an issue exclusively with IE, then everyone using IE on the forum would be having the same problem.

No, everybody that is using IE would not be having the problem, it depends on the websites you visit, you guys do realize, that cookies can be set by another website, that will only cause problems on this website, if you guys are having those sort of problems, then you have been bit by malware and need to install some programs to get rid of it, it is not Iboats, it is your browsers, you are infected with something that needs to be cleaned up.

This is the reason many of us, don't use IE any longer, it is a **** poor browser, that leaves you open to many problems around the internet, if you have a back button problem, then you have an infection and need to clean your computers, look at adware, or one of the many free malware programs out there to help you.

My comments earlier, were not self inflation, they were simply saying, in this day and age, you have to at least have a fundamental understanding of your computer to surf safely and you have to at least know where to go to get the tools to clean it if you get infected, hell, I get infected, every single time I have to start IE and I don't get infected and am not bothered by ad's or pop up and pop unders when I use Firefox.

First of all, if you are having problems, search for house call on google, then do a scan, you will be amazed at what it finds, then download a program called Advanced system care, by a company called iobit, those two programs will prevent a great amount of the problems you are having.

Next git rid of the piece of crap called Internet Explorer, it causes nothing but problems and find another browser you can work with, all of the alternatives allow you to import your bookmarks, so you will loose nothing! Many don't realize that Firefox is another rendition of Netscape, which was a big browser in the early days of the net, it was far superior to IE, but lost, because it was quashed by the over powering money that Microsoft had.

There is no reason to run something that causes you problems, Microsoft is a powerhouse, and they are creeps, they will do what ever they can to push crap down your throat. There is one reason I don't often buy a new computer with their bloatware on it, and that is because, I can set MY computer up, the way I like it, not what they thing I should have.

Like I said, in order to fight this stuff, you have to at least have a basic understanding of what is going on, then you can configure your computer to act the way you want, not what they want!

I do apologize, if I pissed a few off today, but these issues are getting redundant. You guys do realize, this is one of the reasons Microsoft was sued and lost in Europe.

This is only the 2nd website that I have problems backing out of a thread,on the other it backs out with 2 clicks, sometimes here it wont back out & I have to reload the forum list to get back in.I get no pop up ads of any kind,my thoughts are that the server is letting stuff in that other sites filter out.If my computer had a major problem I would think every site that I went to would have the same problem,Im no computer expert but do have some sense about how things work.I know know to correct it though & thats to limit the use lol ,have a great day,mike243 roger wilco out

Re: doubleclick.net takes over iboats

In doing some more research, this is not a Iboats problem, it is an IE problem, several tech forums on the internet have been discussing this issue for a while now.

http://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/page killing back button in IE.

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...-working/f0f0847b-6155-e011-8dfc-68b599b31bf5

It seems this has something to do with compatibility issues and such between certain versions of IE and websites that run certain types of google ad's and it has been going on for a couple of years now, but only affects certain combinations of browser and operating systems. Apparently both google and microsoft are aware of the issues, but have not done much to clear it up, but in several forums I have read through, there are work arounds that will stop it from happening.

Re: doubleclick.net takes over iboats

I've been able to resolve the issue by blocking all of the associated domain names and also adding the .com or .net versions, even though those didn't show up. That tip was recommended in one of the links and it seems to work for now. The ironic thing is that the problem wasn't this bad until I tried to install new ad blocking software.
