Downsizing Hydrofoil Fin?

I've got a 17' Aquasport with a 93' 115 Merc. The motor has a hyrofoil fin bolted to it. I like the way the fin pulls the bow down into the water but I feel it pulls it down too far, especially at high speeds. Has anyone ever tried cutting a small portion off each side of a fin to lessen it's effect?

The hydrafoil should be above the water at high speed. Maybe your motor is tilted down too far of the motor is mounted too low. The cavitation plate should be about 1/2" - 1" above the bottom of the boat.
