My outdrive is a DP-SM and my Transon Shield is a SX-M. I am trying to replace one of my trim cylinders. I have a spare to put on. I can get everything lose or off except the hydraulic line fittings They are frozen and won't turn. If I keep trying I am starting to round the nuts. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get these to loosen up?
I have tried penetrating oil with no luck. Can you apply heat to this type of fitting since it has hydraulic fluid in it?

Crows foot line wrench, tighten slightly, then loosen.
Since you are already rounding on the loosen side of the nut, a light tightening, will break it free.

They make line nut wrenches that contact 5 of the 6 points, and they work well. I never rounded one useing them.

Re: DP-SM Trim Cylinder Removal problem

I wanted to update what I ran into taken the starboard hydraulic cylinder off. First you cannot use a line nut or flare wrench because there is not enough room between the nut and the cylinder itself. So the only thing that will go on is an open end wrench which would not budge it. I got the first oil line off using heat and vise grips. However, the 2nd line would not come off. By using too much heat, I caused the rubber connection to the metal line to melt and start leaking. So I cut the line and got the cylinder off. Only problem now is I will have to replace the oil lines which cost $130 for both and I have to pull the out drive to replace them. If anyone knows a cheaper replacement please let me know. Jerry

Often, when I have a situation like this, I will cut a slot in a box wrench with a dremel just wide enough to get the tubing through. I then put a vise grip around that to help keep it tight and closed while I try to loosen the nut.

BruceB58 - that is a great idea. I will make one and try it on the unit at home. Thanks.
