Picked up a used lower unit to replace my damaged one and have a question on the splined coupling that goes to the top of the shaft. When I remove the unit from the boat, the coupling dropped out. It has an internal snap ring. Does the snap ring end go up or down? The replacement unit I bought came with a shorter coupling that doesn't have a snap ring or a grove for it. The manual isn't very clear on this. It dous say to install the coupling with the groove up. Are they referring to the snapring groove?
