I borrowed 2 of these this past weekend to do some yard work and I thought I would pass along some comments.

I have aches in places I did not think muscles were! The 2 machines were DR Trimmer/mowers and the small one was a single speed (older model)with thin rear wheels and it worked very good. This would handle brush up to about 1"

The 2nd one was a beast! A 15hp with a 5 speed transmission and a locking differential. It would eat trees and brush up to 2" in diameter. My hillside which is way over the operating angle of either machine presented quite a challange. They max angle they recommend is 20 degrees .... well it was used on 40-45 degree slopes. It was hard to control but what a great job they do.

Later in the day a friend and myself did the brush by the deercamp and on level ground they were incredible. It chops everything up and it all looks like a cleanly mowed field.

Bob

Re: DR Brushcutter

Great machines, Bob.

My first choice isn't made any more, but is as much in demand by people who know it as WWII M3 Jeeps.

The Gravely Convertible tractor in anything from 6 to 12hp was a true wonder. I had a 1936 Model L and later a 12HP electric start that must have been about a '70 model.

No belts. Cone clutches. All gear drive.
36" Brush and mower blade.
60" triple reel mower.
60" sickle mower.
48" front loader bucket.
60" dozer/snow blade.
30" circular saw.
Rotary plow/12"hole digger
24" tiller.
Sulky.
2 wheel 20 cu. ft.cart with seat.

What I didn't have:
8KW 220/110 generator.
Irrigation pump.
Various agricultural tools.

That was a near-perfect machine for a 1-5 acre homestead. It did everything I could think of on my 2.5 acre hobby farm in IL. I would love to have it back to supplement Big Orange (Kubota B2150HST).
