I recently aquired a 1984 20' makko. The boat and motor need work but I couldn't pass up FREE. My question is. Does any one know where the drain hole in the front floor well is supposed to drain. The boat was left uncovered and accmulated water in the front well. The water will not drain. I thought it might have been ice but after pouring hot water into the hole for a few days I still have no drainage. Thanks for the help.

Re: Drain hole in 20' Makko

I have a 1978 25' Mako. The drain for my front well runs into a PVC pipe that runs aft and exits out the transom. Do you have an extra drain hole in your transom?
On some boats, the well drains right into the bildge.
Everything and anything can clog these drains. Try using a garden hose and stick the nozzle in the hole and run it for a bit and try to break up the blockage. If you do have the extra drain line, stick the nozzle in at the transom and try to back flush the tube.

Hi,

I have a 1975 19'. The front well drains into the bilge. I have a large enough hatch in my deck to stick my head in. I can see the PVC pipe that goes to the front well. If you can get it unclogged, see if you can fit your head into the bilge opening. If you can, I bet you'll see a pipe that either ends, so it'll drain right to the bilge, or the pipe will go out the transom.

A free Mako is great!! Good luck.

Wave and DBLD
Thanks for the replys. I haven't been able to locate the exit drain in the transom yet...it must be behind the battery and the oil resivor. I will dig in this weekend. I thought it would make sense for it to drain to the trason but just wanted to make sure. If I can't unclog from the back maybe I will dry drano. Do you see any issue with this?

DON'T USE DRANO!!!!!!! Use a drain snake or a long flexible wire. If it is clogged with dirt and sand and stuff the DRANO will just be a bigger problem.

Kris, You should see the drain hole by standing behind the boat, I think.. If not it probably drains into the bilge..

I had an 82 Mako with a pvc drain going from the bow to the aft bilge. It clogged up a few times but I was always able to clear it by snaking a flexable wire down the pvc from the bilge. You have to be a bit of a contortionist to get at it, but it can be done with a little effort. Good luck.
Stalker
