Drain hole repair

have a old 1983 ranger with a leaky brass drain hold its leaking around the edges. I want to get it out and put in a new one. Im looking for a good one to put in there with out buying the tool that squeezes it (like the ones they use for the brass tubes) Anyone have any ideas on what type I should buy and if you have any advice on installing it. I really dont want to drill any screw holes that some of them look like they want you to do. Was looking at this one but I think it requires a tool as well. thx

You have 2 choices, flare it or screw it. I prefer screws because they easyier to remove than the flared and you can reuse the ones that're screwed on.

I have this type plug on my boat and really like it:
Academy - T-H Marine Drain Plug
The plug is "captured" and it stays at the hole so you always know where it is and it doesn't get lost.

Use 3M 4200 on the installation and screws and you won't have any problems.

Looks good like how its flat on two sides. Im not exactly sure how to install that type because it doesnt look long enough to go through the transom. Do you need to use another pipe and then put that inside it. Im taking out the old brass one so, you know ill need something to go all the way through. thx

When you take the old one out check to make sure the hole through the transom wood has been sealed, if it's sealed you can just install the new one. If the wood isn't sealed you probably have rot down there and you'll have to address that problem.

k thx buddy, ill have to take a look at it when i get the old one out, and get the new part. thx for the help
