I have a 1977 Starcraft. Been working on motor last couple of months and have that straight. Now trying to get boat itself straight. so you will be seeing alot of threads from me. The drain plug on the transom has rust around it. I am thinking it needs to be replaced and or repaired. Something I am not sure I want to do. I am guessing it (the metal ring that the plug goes in) needs to be removed. then the fiberglass, I don't know, needs to be cut out and replaced? Not all that bad. But would like to know if it is hard to do. What would a shop charge on average to put in a new metal ring and remove rust. Do not know if it leaks.
Thanks

Re: Drain hole

If it isn't rusted to badly that should be a pretty stock part, you knock the old one out and tap a new one in, can't cost much.

If it is just rusted around the outside I would get some rust converter at Autozone, clean it up as best you can and put that on it.
It turns black and will never rust again.

Had a car with a small rust spot, put that on it and it was still black 3 years later when I sold it, I never painted it or did anything else to it.
