Are there any reasonable alternatives to the standard drain tube in my new transom? The transom is 1.5" thick with about 1/8" fiberglass sheath on the outside. I keep looking and there has to be a better way.

Re: Drain plug in new transom

I went ahead and used the brass tube, it was not difficult at all. I used a 1 inch spade bit, ran the hole, pushed the tube through and marked it, and cut it so there was about 3/16 sticking out. Used plenty of 3M5200, pushed tube through from inside out, and braced the inside end with a piece of wood. I used a 3/8 extension and a hammer to roll the edge out, alternating from one side to the other like you tighten lug nuts until the edge was completely rolled. It turned out fine. I don't like the thread in drainplugs, too small and to easy to lose.

Thanks Jason. I have the brass tube, I will just have to seal it well with 5200. I've looked at the garboard assemblies and liked them less.
