Drain Plug Replacement

I inherited a 1985 Princecraft aluminum boat and it had a bolt and a washer with rubber to act as a permanent fixture to the drain plug. I personally prefer being able to remove the plug while it's being trailered etc. So I have tried to find a plug that fits the hole; however, I've found none that fit. 1" too big, 3.4" too big, 5/8" too small... Given that I cannot find a plug that fits, how would one suggest I go about replacing and re-boring the drain hole to a standard size?

Re: Drain Plug Replacement

Do you think there would be any issues with boring the hole out another 1/4 of an inch to make it a full inch in diameter? currently it measures around 11/16

Re: Drain Plug Replacement

Issues as far as affecting your boat... none.

Issues with performing the task... a reduced shank 1" steel twist bit would be easiest, just put 'er up against the hole and drill.
... or you could use a 1" hole saw, for this you'll need a wood backer... a piece of wood held up against the hole on the inside of the boat so you can position the mandrel on the saw to bore the hole correctly and clean.
