Re: Drain plug

I take and drill a hole through the square boss and press in a stainless pin about 1" sticks out on either side like a tee handle, no tools involved, I modified a couple of them so I can keep a spare on the boat at all times.

ONLY ANSWER YOU WILL NEED FOR THIS IS:

Re: Drain plug

Never heard of a plug falling out becouse it was too tight. Mine is greased (SW) and "snugged" with a wrench.

Re: Drain plug

I put mine in hand tight. It's a plastic plug into plastic threads. It has a rubber o-ring. As o-rings go, overtighten them and they may actually seal less.

Re: Drain plug

Mine have always been brass into a brass fitting, always have put it in finger tight in my trailer boats. Have never had it be looser coming out than when I put it in. In fact, several times a year I have to use a pair or pliers, wrench. etc, to get it out even though I only put it in finger tight.

Re: Drain plug

Finger tight plus a little less than a quarter turn with a cresent wrench that I keep in the back of the truck just for that purpose. Mine is brass on brass.
