Drain plugs in the swim platform???

Greetings,

I have an '89 Cobalt 192 Condurre. To my knowledge, I am the third owner and I've managed to put together somewhat of an owner's manual that I downloaded from the Cobalt website. What is puzzling me at the moment is the fact that there are two drain holes underneath my swim platform:confused:. Anyone else have this? No water comes into the boat from the platform that I know of. Do I need to purchase drain plugs for those two holes? Would leaving them unplugged pose any danger or problems to my safety or my passengers? Thanks.

Is your swim platform molded into the hull cap or is it one of those bolt on platforms? Do the drains come into the inside of the boat?

Swim platforms should have grids or holes in them so when the boat goes up and down in swells it relieves the pressure that will be applied to the bottom of the swim platform.

Pictures?

Here are a couple of pics I took this afternoon. The drain does not go into the boat and I don't have a live well.

That makes sense come to think of it...

If your platform doesn't have any lockers in it then I would put a plug in those.
That platform reached down pretty low, sees like when it fills with water it would make a stern heavy holeshot, I really don't know now.

Do you have coolers under the rear seats? If so could they be cooler drains???

No coolers under the seat. I do have a built in ice chest to the floor but it drains into the bilge.

Rog...thank you for the help. It's kind of tough figuring out things without the proper paperwork. Thanks forum members :)

I suspect they are there so that if water gets into the platform it can drain out, rather than be trapped and cause rot, weight, etc. Remember, water alone is not a problem for a boat. Standing water is.
I'd leave them open. Someone who is a boat designer thought they were a good idea. But then again, some boat designer put a cooler in a platform that drains into the boat....

if they are underwater when the boat is at rest (I suspect they are) plug em and pull the plugs when you pull the boat out .....If not then leave em open....
