There is a drain plug on the starboard side of the engine toward the rear, and one on the bottom of the manifold. When the water stops running, rod out the hole to make sure it's not plugged. Pull the water hose of of the PS cooler and lower the drive to let it drain properly.

Mine were on my 3.0 liter GM Mercruiser. Port side as you face the bow, definitely.

What if you use an inboard up until the ice is on? What I mean is,does one risk freezing and cracking the block after running a day in the cold water then loading and pulling home in freezing condition's/temp's just using the stock drain's or should other precaution's be made?

Ayuh,..... At the launch, when loadin' out, drain the 2 drains in BD's picture, pull the Big hose off the circulatin' water pump, 'n lower the drive to drain while yer tyin' down, raise it to travel, 'n lower it again when ya get where it's goin',...
If ya got P/S, drain it's cooler,...

Nothin' to it, I used to do it til the water at the launches was too Hard to launch through,...
