I hear a lot of opinions on Ethenol. Now I have almost a full tank of fuel with E10 in a 30 gal. tank. There might be a couple months here in Texas that I can't get out on the water. After all it gets down to 50 or 60 degrees here. Anyway can I leave that fuel in the tank and engine with the Sta Bil or should I drain it and run it out of the engine too. I hear terrible things happen to your outboard with this E10 crap. What can you tell me???

No - terrible things will not happen!:). I've just put my boat away, for its 7 month winter sleep ,with a full tank (45 gals) of E10 with Startron ethanol stabilizer in it. I have no concerns.

Jebus Krist - you can leave ethanol in a tank for 6-12 months without the world coming to an end. Just park the damn thing and don't bother pouring that carb fouling stabil junk in the tank either. As for ethanol stabilizer, there is no need for that either unless your local refinary doesn't put in the same additive package they have been using in MN for 20 years.

The ONLY thing you need to do when switching to E10 in a modern boat is up the mixture a bit so that the motor doesn't run lean.

50 or 60 degrees? Thats perfect fall fishing weather!

We don't stop boating until the water goes below 32. The lower Niagara river has one launch ramp that is ice free and it gets used all winter long.

A friend was sick and didn't use his boat for 2 seasons. After a 30 month layup with E10 the fuel injected engine started up in a flash and ran just fine.

I had done the previos winterizing so I can atest to a full tank and stabilized for sure.

Add a water separator to your boat, which is a good idea either way, and life will be fine. I hate ethanol more than most but not because it's ever given me or my boat any issues. I've stored my twin 6 gallon cans empty, full, and everywhere in between (with and without Stabil) over the past 6 winters, and they sit that way for 5-6 months.

You had better drain that fuel... i will dispose of it for you :). Kidding... all is going to be well. Add stabilizer or not... whatever makes you feel better.

Re: Draining Ethenol

i would rather store the fuel at a lower temp then the high outside temps like it is in florida. during the day the fuel expands and then as the temp falls at night the tank sucks back in humidity so it common to get water in the gas. i have a water seperator on the boat so its no big deal and if the boat has not been used for a while i will drain the carbs before using it again.
