i was just wondering, i have a 8 hp evinrude i keep at the lake, i take it off after every weekend and store it in the garage, my question is should i just shut it off and move with gas in the carb. Or, run it, pull the fuel line off and run the carbs empty? It usually is only stored for a week or two berfore it get used again. What do you think?

Re: draining gas

Short stops like that I wouldn't bother, for longer breakes I would run it dry at idle, some people will say when you run it dry there is no oil to lubricate the motor, I say no fuel no go, I've been doing that for 16 years on a 90hp merc and it starts first go from a long break and thats with very old fuel.

Re: draining gas

I would say, yes, run it dry, I do this with all my outboards and never have any problems ..... after it dies the 1st time, wait 10 seconds pull the choke, and start it once more at half throttle, it will start and then die straigh away, then you know it is totally dry .... starts back up straight away after a long time .... this discussion comes up alot .... some believe in it, some don't ... different strokes for different folks .... I see it this way ... if there is no fuel in the carbs, there is no way the oil will sit and go all glue-ie in it, causing a rebuilt every so often .... just a thought :)
