I have a 1995 Genesis, with Mercruiser 4.3 carb engine. Boat has been sitting for 2 years plus. I want ot drain the gas but there is limited access to the tank other than the fill hole. Is there and easy way you guys have learned to get the old gas out....I'm thinking of disconnecting the line at the carb and pumping it out from there?? Maybe it is just as easy to syphon from the tank fill hole?

A lot of boats have access to the gas gauge sender. If your boat has that kind of access, remove the sender and stick a "shake-shake" siphon hose in there. If the hose is not long enough to go over the gunwale, a piece of 1/2" copper pipe will fit thru the garboard drain fitting and allow you to siphon the tank into some jerry cans at the transom.

The easiest way that I have drained (actually pumped) gas from the fuel tank is to disconnect the fuel line at the fuel filter and connect it to a siphon/pump hose.

Safety and caution should be your guide here with handling fuel.

If you disconnect at the carburator, then you will have to pump the fuel through the filter and higher up on the engine, etc. It may not work out so weel.

I bought a $9.99 siphon was Harbor Freight and pumped out 20 gallons in about 10 mins. Might take a bit more time, but can't beat it for the safety.
