Have 2004 5.0L MPI (260hp) with Alpha 1 (raw water cooled). It has single point drain system. Open faucet valve and let it drain.

Question: Check valve is located between PS cooler and engine drain. If I just drain block for winter, will check valve open to drain PS cooler. I assume this a one way check valve that does not allow water to flow out from engine, but allow raw water from outdrive to flow into the block. Once the block is drained, the check valve will open to drain PS cooler.

The merc tech said that is why the PS cooler is sloped down towards check valve. To allow it to drain towards engine.

I just want to make sure since it is very difficult to get to the PS hoses if not necessary.

Thanks for help, great forum.

Re: Draining PS Cooler

As I said in 1 of the Winterization Threads,.......

There's No Way I'd trust these Single Point Drain systems to drain My engine,..........
There's Too Much Silt, Sand, Etc. to restrict or block the the drains,....
You Could be left with Alot of water in the engine, or manifolds..........
And Never Know It.......

Even with my old multi-point draining,... I Have to Ream out the drains in the engine Block to make Sure the Water is Gone.......
I'd rather be Sure that Mine is Drained.......

Ayuh,........ I believe in Dry storage.........
