Havent been on here much been bussy with trying to kepe my bussiness floating as good as my boat in this crapy economy.
Othen then that my boat has been running just perfectly since last time this year when I had to have a new transom seal and steaaring pin seal done due to a water leak that we thought was everything but what it was...But since then the boats been awesome so I want to keep it that way and since I dont plan to be running it all winter like I did last year Im "winterizing"
Keep in mind I live in Arizona and it only gets down to maby 42 at night here in Phoenix but never the less I practice full maintneance procedures and I have learned a lot from reading this forum. Thats what brings me here now.
I have a 93 7.4 (454) with Bravo I on bayliner 2755 cruiser. I pulled the lower hose connecitons on both the starboard and port manifold to drain the water out and i was pleased to see alot of water drained out.
I didnt replace the water pump impeller since I bought the boat last year and the previous owner said he did it. I beleive he did as the engine hasnt even concerned me once with overheating but now I own it a full yearand ran it all summer and I have to beleive that there is 2 seasons on the impeller. I pull the engine mounted pump and pull the impeller and it would definelt need replacement for next season. What bothers me is 1/4 of one of the blades is gone and severl of the other blades are begining to crack at the core so this impleller is shot. Good I cought it b4 I ever had an over heat. I have now read several posts stating the fact I need to, or I should look around in the cooling system for the rest of those blades. So I pulled the thermostat cover and stat out. I stuck my fingers in the water passage on both sides of the houseing and I really didnt see or feel any parts of the impeller. There was some "junk" and buildup in the housing that I removed but nothing big. I understand these blades will wind up in the housing somtimes and sometimes clog the passage and create an over situation.
So I havent had a single overheat sistation but I would like more evidance as to where the parts of the blade went. I think my engine has an oil cooler as I feel one of the hoses from the T stat run down and to the bottom of the bilge and goes into something. I cant get down in there to se what it is but I can feel it. Is this something I need to examine do you think?
Let me know what you think. I plan on buying a new T stat just so I know its new, the one I have has a little rust but since its open why not put in a new one. A new T stat gasket and plastic retainer.
What else???
