drilled exhaust holes,,,,

I see people drilling holes in there mid section of their outboards, it sounds good, but does it hurt performance, or the engine., i would think it would alleviate back pressure, and actually help hp. ...any thoughts or ideas? I have a 1988 evinrude 150xp, where would i drill these holes? Considering its not a bad idea??? Thanks guys...

i dont think i would do it, even if it gave a tiny boost in hp...which i doubt. all i can see it doing is weakening the midsection. jmo

I honestly wouldnt care if it did anything at all for performance, i know it probly sounds silly, but i like the sound...im a muscle car guy, every vehicle i own has a great sounding exhaust. Thats kinda where im goin with this.....but unless Someone can lead me in the right direction with the mod, im not even gonna bother ;-) thank you for your reply.....

Johnrudes are picky about back pressure especially the crossflows and adds little if any benifits unless boat is super light(racing).... below is best way to mod it

In the first place, OMC motors since the 1970's have tuned exhaust. So you may get some noise, but probably no performance increase, possibly loss. Secondly, I don't know where you would drill those holes, considering the way the midsections are made. And I suppose they don't have any noise restrictions where you boat???

On a 2 stroke engine when messing with the exhaust system you can actually loose horsepower.

Got any pics? I wouldn't do it, but I'm curious to see what it looks like. I've never seen anyone do it before. I have seen folks drill holes in the hub of their props, but not the leg.

+1, nothing like the sound of a big bore two stroke running at any rpm, whether the exhaust is modded or not!!

Tomhath......Theres always gonna be one *** in the bunch......i said i wasnt starting a debate, and insisted on information on doing the job, not some opinion of what everyone on the lake thinks.....for all you know i have a personal 2000 acre lake.....so keep it movin if you cant fill my request, stated in my thread.......o and merry christmas....
