hi

i have a 18 ft fiberglass lake boat / rowboat

i want to put fins on the stern to lift it out of the water when going full throttle , i baught a dole fin but it dosent help much because of the shape of the boat

there is 2 boyency tanks under the back seat which are part of the stern too

if i want to put on fins like everyone else does , could i use self tapping screws and silocoe sealent to do it, i need to get exra lift my 9.5 johnson is a low profile model and bcause of the shape of the shaft it catches a lot of water and sumtimes i get splashes coming in over the transom

ill be upgrading to a newer 15hp next year and the fins would help an awful lot for that as ill be getting a 4 stroke which will be heavey too

i am about 220lbs myself so thats a good bit of weight when i go out on my own

any help appreciated

I guess I dont understand what you are calling boyancy tanks. Are you talking about the part under the seat with foam?

i really don't think much will help.. your just way under powered.. if doelfins didn't help ,,addin' real hull type fins wont help much .. it'll just make it bogg down..

see,, you can't get a 'change-in-effect' for free.. it's gotta take away from somethin' ,,i.e.,,power..

but say you do anyway.. self tapper srcews into what ..??? fiberglass an what..??
maybe some wood backin'... maybe not... or what..?? into the boyency tanks..?? what are they ..?? aluminium..?? or whatever,, can't be very thick for a good srcew hold whatever it is...

bottom line.. nuthin' gonna help but a larger motor..

http://www.pike-ireland.com/boats.html

if you go to that URL anc click on the first thumbnail pic , you will see the type of boat i have , only mine has wooden gunnels and seats , but the hull is pretty much the same , so you have the idea i am getting at , i think there is a good thick layer of fiberglass and /or timber al the way thru my transon , im gonna call the guy who built the boat and find out

the pic is too far away to see it right.. nice craft ,none the less..

you can do what you want.. but still say it's grossly under powered.. an like i said,, 'you don't get somethin' for nothin'".. the fins will rob even more precious power..

nice fish tho..!! REAL NICE FISH..!!

let use know the outcome,, stop by anytime.. tell us about the fishin' over there..

Re: drilling into boyency tanks

those are sme REAL pike

they fight like dogs ovr here

the only thing is there becoming scarce becaus a lot of trout fishermen that catch pike accidently will kill them because the pike kill a lot of trout , stupid ****ers

BTW , when u say its underpowered, most of the boats hwere have 9.9 and 15 hp on em anything more is far too much , im not sure what speed i get withmy 9.5 , its fast enough the only problem is the ass of the boat stays down in the water
