Drive Alignment ?

Hello.

This may be a silly question but I discovered that my engine/outdrive adjustment locking nuts were not locked down
(at all!)..Funny thing is it has been like this for 4 years. But thank goodness I have been restoring it for that long too in the garage. Do I tighten the locking nuts down and go for it or pull the drive and align? It is a 3.0 mercuiser Alpha One. '87 SeaRay Seville.

Thanks, Pete44

There is only one way to verify the drive is in alignment. If it were me, I wouldn't leave it to chance. Better to verify now then have to pull the engine because you messed up the coupler.

^^^ What rad1026 said.
I ran my boat out of alignment (unknowingly) and it smoked the coupler in short order. Stranding me in the middle of the river with my family and a few friends.
The bad thing about it is that you will get little to no warning when it goes.
