which way to go. should i pull my drive and have a look + split the halfs and inspect the impeller? engine and drive listed below. i just got the boat last fall. the dealer i got the boat from in SD said he replaced the impeller prior to sale. had no over heat issues and feel i can 'probably' believe this dealer. had dealer here pull drive and inspect bellows and gimble brg. , ujoint, alignment after i got it last fall. all looked good at that point. put maybe 20 hours on it prior to winterizatin. did R&R drive fluid at end of last year. was nice and clean. though did put another hour ontoit after the change on a nice day. put to sleep that way for winter. i feel the proper thing to do would be to inspect both. which i should have done at end of season last year. but i was ambivlant last fall and didn't. or should i just splash it with the minor use it's had after the inspections i've had? which way to go....

Re: drive inspection?

Those impellers should be good for at least 2 seasons.
I sure wouldn't go to all the work just to "Inspect" an impeller. If i have it apart, it gets a new impeller.

Re: drive inspection?

It never hurts, but I'd be inclined to trust it this season and have another look next fall. See what it does over a year. I highly recommend a temp gauge if it doesn't already have one.

Easy enough to spot-check the bellows. Tilt the drive way up and move it from side to side. Look for cracking or extremely soft spots. Look where the water hose rubs on the driveshaft bellows on the port side for wear. Look for tears between the pleats on the shift cable bellows. Those are the usual suspects.

thanks folks. that's just the kinda feedback i was lookin for. was hopeing for even.

i understand that idea. i'f i went for an impeller inpection. it's gettin an impeller and housing replacment for all the labor effort to go look. i would dought the dealer in SD did the houseing.
my worry about the impeller is i have no way of knowing it was replaced by that dealer. i've thought about callin him up and asking him if he really did change it as the deal is done and he'd have no interest in it now. but don't want to insult him. he was a really nice fella to deal with.....

wbw, i'll do just what yer talin about for an external check. thanks for insight as to where to be lookin and what to be lookin for....and yep, got an oem temp gage that worked last year. hopein it works this year... i don't like the gauge though as it's the mercruiser one without #'s. just green or red......last year it was in the green......
