Drive lube leaking

I have a Merc 3.0 and with a Alpha I out drive
I have a thing next to the engine that says ?drive lube monitor? see picture.

When I bought the boat it was a bit low but there was still lots of drive lube in it. I ran it like that for about 30 hours perhaps with NO issue.

I got more drive lube and fill up the drive lube monitor to the correct level and now the drive lube leaks out of a hole in my out drive.

Any ideas?

You have a leak in your drive that nees to be fixed. Oil should never have to be added to a bottle.The drive is a sealed system and never requires oil unless something is leaking

I am having the same issue here

3.0L mercruiser
Alpha 1 drive


When i bought the boat it was towards lower half. ran it, then filled it back up. Noticed after the next 3 or 4 times driving no drop. Then all of a sudden during a safety check I see im 1/2 inch from being empty. I went ahead and filled it. I ran the boat for 4-5 hrs. Cam to pull out of water, and I was nearly empty again.

It's not unusual to have to top off the lube monitor resivior after you change the lube, as air can burp out and lower the level.
Continually having to top off indicates a leak somewhere.
