Drive oil low

I just noticed the drive oil resivoir was low.

The outside of the outdrive has some oil running down it.

Any idea what could be leaking?

Where does the oil go? I have had the boat for years and have never had to add any.

not knowing what kind of drive you have I`d say it`s due for a re-seal job after all these years

How big of a job is it?

carrier seal, upper unit oil seal, upper unit drive shaft seal, shift shaft seal, prop seals,
on a scale of 1-10 ,about an 7.5 WITH A MANUAL

Ugh. I have done a lot work on jet ski's, snowmobles and cars but very little with boats.

Would you consider it maintenace or repair?

I have not had any work done (other than changing oil) for the last couple of seasons. I was looking do some siginifigant maintenance before storing the boat but that may be a bit much.
