Here's another one for everyone. This one may be common sense to most, but how do I identify what shaft length is on this 82 Johnson 115? Mod. Number J115TLCNB. Thanks all!

The suffix on the model # indicates any mid-year changes.

Thanks for the diagram, idonthaveaname. I wasn't able to view it very well, but im guesing that it shows propper shaft length in accordance to transom height. Do you know if hull bottom design playes into that ss well?
Thanks for the info on the model # indicator boobie.

Re: Drive shaft length.

If mounting directly to a boat transom: Measure from the top of the transom down to the bottom of the hull or keel (lowest point). Measure the area of the transom directly where the engine will be mounted. See diagram below.

If using an auxiliary mounting bracket: With the bracket in the down position, measure from the top of the bracket's mounting surface down to the bottom of the hull or keel (lowest point where engine will be mounted). Tip: For most auxiliary applications, it is possible to use a longer shaft length than what is called for, provided there is sufficient clearance when the engine is in the up position. This can be especially useful in heavy seas.

If measuring an existing outboard: Measure from the inside top of mounting bracket down to anti-cavitation plate above propeller (this is the largest plate/fin directly above the propeller.

Re: Drive shaft length.

Thanks again for the info idonthaveaname! Turns out im preppin thought right now on a full restore for my new to me 1982 Glastron Hpv165 bass boat. If economical enough with all of my other plans, I intend at this point to add a a jackplate with about a 5 inch or so suggested set-back, so yours and and helpful others on this forums freely offered information will be extremely valuable!
Thanks again to all!
