Drive Shaft packing leak after replacement

Gentlemen.

I had my port drive shafts repacked last November with TEFPACK shaft packing. Over the winter we put less than 4-5 hours on the boat and only had short 30 minute runs at cruise speed. We used the boat over Memorial day weekend and after our return run from the Island (about 2 hours at cruise speed) the same packing was leaking at a pretty constant flow. After a day or so, it slowed down to a drip, and now is down to about a drip every 3-4 seconds.

Does this sound like like the packing could have been too tight and overheated or an alignment or other issue?

The Tefpack box says "Tefpack is a synthetic fiber treated with Teflon."

I should also mention, I had the starboard shaft packing adjusted (not replaced) last August, and it remains dry (1 drip every 30 seconds or so).

Thanks.
Dan.
