Can't say 100% for sure but it may be the drive shaft seal that goes right under the water pump where the drive shaft comes through the top of gear housing. It prevents water from entering the top of the gear housing and getting on the upper drive shaft bearing. Having said that, a lot of the aftermarket seal kits cover more than one type of gear housing so it's not uncommon for the to be a few "extra" parts.

Some advice - Don't contact Admin. They aren't on as much as Mods. With the way the forum was acting yesterday, there is no telling what happened. I found pnwboat's post and it is being attached to this thread.

EDIT - I should change the thing about contacting Admin. You can try to get in touch with them, but Mods can do many of the same things as Admin and in those cases that require Admin, we can get in touch with them. But they usually don't work nights and weekends like we do.

Yes I remember responding to your question. Found some additional info. That seal F84307-1 that you referenced on your original post is found on the gear case diagram for a 1976 Chrysler 105HP motor. It goes right under the water pump on the gear case. I don't think it's used on your 1988-1989 125HP motor. Did you already replace a seal in that location? If so, then I would assume that the seal kit you have covers more than just one year/type of gear case, and this seal is just an extra for the older gear case.
