Okay I finally got this motor running good (various problems)
I picked up a water pump kit today in Ocala Fl. got home put it together no big deal RIGHT. I tried to put the drive shaft back to the power head and line everything up it lacked about 4 inches of going up. After fussing with it and myself I decided to get a flash light and look up where the drive shaft went. To my surprise I found what looks like a carrier bearing or an alignment bushing had flipped on it's side about 8 inches up in the mid section. I looked at all the diagrams I have and can't find this contraption maybe it went to the bottom of the power head? Doe's anyone know what I've found? I can't put it back together to say the least.

Re: drive shaft/water pump 60 hp 3 cyl.

Ray,my 1989 60hp 3 cyl has 2 different items that actually fit on the top splined end of the driveshaft. These items should have come with your kit.As i recall the "staight" one is a harder plastic piece and goes on first on the shaft. The second one is softer plastic and has a taper to it,it rides on top of the first, smaller diameter towards pwrhd. If you are not succesful in stabbing the LU ,they will fall ofF almost every time when your muscles give out and you lower the unit to the ground. Then you have to fish them out and reinstall them on the driveshaft. Hope it helps.

Went to the barn fished them out of the lower unit, put them back like you said and bingo went back in like a champ. Thank you. Backed it in my pond and it work very well. The pea stream was great.
