Drive shaft won't turn

I have a 7.5 HP Eska with just Forward and Neutral.

When in gear with the prop off, I can hold the drive shaft and keep it from turning.

I assume there's a problem with the clutch or a gear.

I can't remove the column from the engine after removing the six (6) screws.

Any ideas?

Re: Drive shaft won't turn

Clutch failure is fairly common.Unfortunately I don't have any info on the leg removal
though it appears there are 6 pieces layered between the powerhead pan and the leg.If this has been a faithful performer fix her up with as little expense as possible.
The Eska has a reputation for finicky operation, not performing the same way 2 days in a row.I personally wouldn't replace the clutch even if you could find one.I would try to repair or simply make the clutch fixed in gear.

Hey there, I'm new to this forum but not to the dependable Eska, I just recently went completely through a 1977 7.5 and I thought I had a bad clutch but it turns out that the drive shaft can be installed so that the lower leg can be bolted down and the darn drve shaft slides up beside the clutch missing it completely, you really need to get that column off, should have a couple places to pry from on each side. also I'm not sure what your saying about

also the clutch's operation is alittle tricky at first to understand

Eska's are cool little outboards an easy to fix
