drive swap

just picked up lattest prodject, 79 cobalt 19 br. had v8,merccruiser,. would like to put in more modern eng/outdrive. what would fit with min mods.

Newer model of the same thing (Mercruiser), or even the 94 and newer Volvo engines and drives.

thank you.kind of thought so, eyeballed some merc,volvo,cobra , looked close but was not sure.was just up in your neck of the woods yesterday. thats where i picked up the cobalt. is it blowing up there yet?
