It's been awhile this leak has been driving be nuts. Finally figured out that it's in the transom on the engine side of the transom. HOW THE HELL do I get to it, to fix it. It may just need some tightening. I'd HATE to pull the engine just to get to the hoses that connect to the transom on the engine side. I can't see it but can hear it leak from there when someone trims up or down and I listen.

Any pointers?

Thanks!

In my experience there's no lossen nuts, they are actually burned from rubbing against the exhaust pipe, you may want to check the lower shifting cable for burns as well, in my opinion this is a really bad design, you can replace them by loosening from the bottom of the drive as shown on Don schem, but the trick is depending on how much room you have to try to insert them behind the engine, i'm just glad i had my engine out and found the 2 hoses burned and also the lower shift cable that runs thru the same hole, that leak drive me insane for a while now i know where it is same as yours, chances are the exhaust pipe its blocked and getting really hot to burn the hoses, i will suggest to remove the engine and while its out remedy all this other issues.

Ayuh,... The Trick is, to use the old lines to pull through the new lines,... ;)

Could you elaborate Bond-o?

I removed the 2 bolts for the mercathode box beneath the drive. I had To PULL relatively HARD to get the wires down enough to turn the box 90 degrees to get to the 2 nuts holding down the trim manifold. The trim manifold would only come down enough to clear the studs but no more. There was still slack inside to pull more without disconnecting from trim pump, but it wouldn't budge. I was able to insect the connection to the manifold from the trim pump while cycling the system fully up and down with no signs of leakage. So I'm guessing the burned hose from the exhaust sounds possible.

I'll order the hoses before I go any further for now. I'll try Bond-o's method above hopefully. I'd rather not pull the engine if I don't have to.

I got the manifold back up tight, but the mercathode wires wont go back up!! CRAP. How the HELL can I get those wire to go back up the hole?? Gonna try to pull them up from inside if I can get to them.

Thanks!

So....

Pulling the wires from the inside didn't help. Took a closer look at the trim manifold, and the center hole where the mercathode wires run through was full of HARD CALCIUM! Grabbed the thinnest screwdriver available and went to town. After about 30 mins of scrapping that crap out, viola, wires went up and I was able to seal it all up in time for tomorrows fishing trip.

Next I need to order the trim pump to trim manifold hydraulic hoses. I'll keep the thread updated. thanks!!
