Driveshaft splines

I was just wondering what the differences in the drive shaft spline were between the 1977 35 and a 1969 40 big twin?
I found an outboard jet for the old big twins and wondered if those splines would fit my 1977 35. I know I'll have to do a little bit of hole pattern changing to mount it but it sure beats spending $2000 for a pump.
Might be a fun project or might not be even something to think about?
