just started my searay with twin 3.8L omc's (800 series outdrives) in the driveway on the hose and i was running hot, so i replaced thermostat to no avail, i pulled incoming line off the thermostat and seem to have plenty of incoming water. what gives???? it seems to run a little cooler at hight rpms (2000) but still running on the warm side and runs near redline at idle. i have plenty of water pressure at ears and water is coming from exhaust, although very little at idle.

Re: driveway cooling

Usually you would start at the impeller in the drive but it sounds like they are new.You can ruin the impeller in a few seconds if you even crank the motor w/o the water hooked up to the earmuffs FIRST.I would look to the risers next. How old are they???Open the brass drains on them while running the motor and see if a clog is apparent.Jab a coat hanger in the hole and see if silt comes out. That should get you started in the right direction.Charlie

Re: driveway cooling

Was it cooling fine before the outdrives were rebuilt? If yes, then there's likely the best place to start looking for your answer...something may be wrong with the rebuild or installation. Impeller installed incorrectly? Impeller forgotten? Key left out? Seals incorrectly positioned? Could be any number of things, but it's pretty obvious you have a flow obstruction or a poorly running pump if you're getting "very little" water out of exhaust at idle.
