Droping a 302 in my boat

I have a 81 VIP ski and fish. It has a 302 short block with reverse rotation in it currently with a shot block so I have 2 questions. 1 does the firing order matter if I am replacing the entire engine? 2 can I put a new 302 in it or do I have to stick with the same year?

the firing order is determined by the cam. many 302 marine motors used the 351 cam.

if you have an OMC stringer, you should have a standard rotation motor

Ayuh,.... I've never seen an I/O with a righthanded motor either,.... don't think there are any,.....

What horse power was the original engine? 170 or 190
