I just dropped the lower unit on a 1998 75 HP Mercury/Force

After this thread was started and ended

Here is what I found......

Ok I went in a little further and its looks ok, look at the water impellar, im sure that did not help, but it was shooting water when running.

So the orange gasket behind the water pump housing is that supposed to be like that? Looks like it was hot glued or silicone caulked.

Is that lower unit oil on there? If so you have a seal problem.

Yes, I have been told and I am pretty sure its the gear oil, what seals am I looking for? I was told the Prop Shaft Seal.

It's not the prop shaft seal, it's the drive shaft or the shift shaft seal. Pull the impeller cover and if there is no oil in there then it's the shift shaft seal. But you still should do both while you have it apart.

No oil in the impeller cover, but I am going to change that drive shaft seal as well. Any other Suggestions?

You know there is a Force section on this site and if it is a Force, that's where it belongs. Just because it might say "Made By Mercury Marine" on the cowlings, doesn't make it a Mercury outboard.
