Dropping a lower unit on a 30hp Merc 4-stroke

I found all 5 bolts. The unit drops about 1 1/2" before the shift rod stops it. I can't for the life of me figure out how to disconnect the linkage. I also can't find my shop manual anywhere. Any hints? Would like to get this done today.

There is a plastic clip under the cowl towards the front of the engine. unsnap it so you can slide it to the left. you will have to take the pressure of the l/u off of it to get it to slide.

I have seen that clip. It is where the shifter connects to the rod. I unsnap that, slide it to the left, and the whole rod pulls out with the lower unit?

That was it, Nick. Thanks a ton. Now all I have to do is exchange the impeller I bought on Friday as it is too big.
