Hello. I have a 1995 18 ft Astro bass boat 150 mercury motor, and I have dry rot on passenger side of boat about a foot foot section if that . I put gloves on and stuck my hand through and touched another piece of wood to the left of it and that piece was was rotted also. How can i tell if i have just those 2 spots bad and how can i get to it. I don't really know about boats designs and so on,but i am pretty handy and know my way around a ruler or 2.

marquise, I think you need to head over to the drydock, Boat repair and restoration, section of this forum and start doing some serious reading. Don't want to be the one to burst your bubble but you may have a lot of work and exspense ahead of you. Because what you already stated it doesn't sound good. And is a lot more involved than we here can give you in just a few paragrapghs.

GO READ! Sorry but you will find more info than you can read in the drydock, by people who have already done it and those same people will be more than eagar to help you get started and complete this project.. Trust me they love this stuff!

Re: Dry Rotted

on a boat it isn't likely dry rot but rather wet (water saturated) rot.

big difference in treatment. solvent thinned epoxy will soak into dry rot - it might bond to damp rot but it will not drive the water out which is the problem.
