1995 johnson 50/35 Model J50JEO.Had carb's rebuilt by mech.Took it to the river for a test run.Motor started no problem, but when I tried to open it up,it sounded like it wanted to stall,no power.(Also replaced with new plugs before test run) Pulled top spark plug it looked like it was still brand new no oil no gas on it???Pulled lower plug looked good like it had been firing when I took it out for test run.Lower plug back in pulled upper plug again, turned motor over had compresion had spark. What could possible be wrong? Will be waiting for some good advice. Thanks, Happy Boating All

Well one of 3 things is going on. First are you sure your fuel pump is working do you have and keep a good solid primer bulb. Does it get better when you squeeze the bulb.
2nd were the carbs synced and lynced after carb rebuild. improper sync of carbs and adjustments could cause your problem. Mechanic should of taken the time to do it.
3rd might be that your carb is still gunked up. I dont care how good of a mechanic you have somtimes you have to take a carb apart a couple of times to reclean. Just the nature of the beast, when your dealing with such small passages it somtimes can be hard to get them clean.
Now the solution if its item number one put a fuel pump in it if its the other 2 then bring it back to your mechanic and make him fix it right....

Easiest way is to run the motor and when it acts up squeeze your primer bulb if it gets better then it probably is a fuel pump issue.

Took motor back to Mechanic,I told him I think he made a mistake some how when he rebuilt carbs,,well you know the look I got.He said no way that they are very simple carbs and he's done hundreds of these. I said ok if so simple lets take a quick look at carb i suspect has a problem, his chest puffed out and said ok.Five minutes later he says, what the ----.never in 20 yrs have I done this.Carb float was stuck. He fixed it apoligized and told me not to hurry back. He's funny that way..Any way moral of story is even a good mechanic can make mistakes. Thanks for all the help here hope i can help some one here to.

Mkaes me laugh. The reason I started working on boats and small engines was because I got tired of getting laid away. Mechanics not standing behind there work or throwing parts at stuff. If your mechanic would have test ran the motor properly he would have known there was a problem. Not to mention the fact that he took a chance at melting a piston or worse.
