Alrighty I need some help I feel that the estimate that I got is extremly high. I have a room in my basement that is 12x19 with 7 foot ceilings. I want drywall on the ceilings and 42" down the walls due to Carsiding. I want just a few things done hanging, mud, tape, and texture. I can prime and paint. Everything is preped and ready to go. I will dispose of everything. So thats what i want and i got an estimate today from a contractor. He wants $1650 to do all of that..... Am I crazy fr thinking that this is high or not????

Thanks Adam

Re: Drywall Help

If he is basing the job at $2.50 a square foot, that really doesn't sound to bad. Materials for that would run from 200 to 250. If he is doing any trim work such as moulding, his material price will be higher.

I would still get a few more estimates and most important, REFERENCES. Call his references and see how their work and job ethics are first.

Goodf Luck

Skiuseme, why don't you hang the sheetrock and hire someone to finish it. The best and quickest finishers don't hang rock so it should be a lot less expensive. Hanging is easy. Finishing is the art.

1. That price is about right
2. Hanging rock on a ceiling is NOT easy
3. The finishing is the easy part - a good straight installation is the more difficult part.

Re: Drywall Help

None of it is really that bad of work, it is just so time consuming. If you do yourself, go to Menards or similar and rent a lift. This helps in ceiling installation.

The price you quote is a pretty good deal, a little low for my area. I would listen to what has been said here and request referances. It seams like sheetrocking is one of those jobs that also come with a lot of con artists.
