Checked spark, compression, fuel, cleaned carbs checked reeds. Fuel pump appears to be working. Can this be electrical?

I took it to a boat guy and he checked everything that I had checked. He told me $400.00 later he thinks it may be the gasket between the carb body and float bowl. He said if that is not it probably crank seals and would need rebuild. The motor starts and runs good at idle and will power up with fast idle lever as well in gear On ears. But will not power up in the water. This is 1991 Suzuki DT100. It seems to me this is something simple. I just cant figure it ouy

running to lean to accelerate under load
I see no way a gasket between bowl and body would have any thing to do with it

clean with heated ultrasonic bath and set as manual calls for once put back on

Thank you. I do not have access to hot ultrasonic bath. I just cleaned the carbs in cold bath for about 1 hour, adjusted floats to hang level when carb is in upright position. Do you think I should get carb kits and rebuild? The manual calls for 1.3 to 1.8 from gentle seat. I was told that doesn't work here should be 2-3 turns. I have them set about 2.5.

I live in The Yukon Canada about 90 miles from Skagway Alaska. The boat guy I had do the work says the the factory specs do not work here. I just put the new float bowl gaskets in. The motor started instantly and seemed to run well except for an occasional backfire through the exhaust. The air mixture is set at 2.5. This is on the ears not in The water Any thoughts

Altitude is the only thing I ever heard of messing with ratio of fuel to air. Higher you go the less O2 to burn so they need to rejet to smaller jets.

My thoughts are as long as a motor has the thermostats in they will get the motor up to the proper temp to burn the fuel

Well since I posted last I have resurfaced the float bowl, installed new float bowl gaskets and set the air fuel screws to 2.5. The motor starts instantly run very well on the ears except for a backfire through the exhaust. I put the boat in the water today. Same problem isles fine but will not Power up beyond 1200 rpm. It seems like when you try to power up there is not sufficient fuel being delivered through the main nozzles. Fuel pump????

What is the altitude there?

Adjust the needles with the boat on the water, needles can not be adjusted on muffs. 2.5 out is probably too much, I bet the plugs are black from running rich. 1.5 from lightly seated is the starting point to get the motor to run in water and the fine tune is in gear at idle. Turn in until it stumbles and then turn until it stumbles watching the turns and set the needle to the midpoint. Repeat for each carb.

If that doesn't do it, rebuild the fuel pump.

Sounds good. I will try that. When I removed the needles to clean I found one with what appeared to be Teflon tape on it. I removed it. Is it possible I have an air leak?
