I have a Suzuki DT200 with a DT150 cowl. Long story but bought the DT200 from a private owner (1988) and took it to a Suzuki dealer to mount it on my Tracker Nitro. When I got it back the mechanic told me he put a cleaner looking DT150 cowl on it. I trust he didn't swap power heads on me and exchange my 200HP with a 150HP power head.

Is there any to tell the difference by just looking at the power head to determine if it is infact a 200HP and not a 150HP?

There is no way to tell because they are the same powerhead. The only difference between the 2-stroke 150 and the 200 is the size of the carburators. The 150 used 28 mm Mikuni's, the 200 used 32 mm carbs.

Thom

Thanks Thom for the info. I didn't realize they were exactly the same displacement and only carborator change. Yo

You can teach and old dog new tricks.

There are other differences.

As mentioned, the carbs would be a good way to tell. If 150 carbs were put on a 200 powerhead, then they would have to be rejetted because:
another major difference is the there are 8 vertical reed petals instead of 4 for normal DT150 or 6 for 150SS.
Also some of the 200's had dual plugs heads- like my '89 however I've heard of some that didn't. The 150 and 200 jugs have difference parts number so the port timing might be different. I have measured my 150 but haven't had the heads off my 200 to compare so I don't know.
The ignition CDI boxes were also stamped for the intended model, but you would have to pull it to see.
