DT 9.9 1988 Suzuki Lower unit problem. Drive shaft bearing housing broke.

This does not look good for me. I picked up a 1988 DT9.9 Suzuki recently in pristine condition. I pressure tested the lower unit and found there were rusted out oil seals in the driveshaft bearing housing. . Trying to remove the bearing housing is where it went wrong.. The housing broke off flush with the top of the gearcase itself. Now I have the bottom half of the bearing housing broken and well seated in the gearcase itself. Has anyone run into this situation and how was it remedied?

I put it aside but now want to get at it. I will try lots of heat and a bearing puller slide hammer. Been soaked in the meantime with Kano and other penetrants . Would be a lot easier with the drive shaft out. Any suggestions on that? Can it just be yanked from the top? I see there is not a nut on the bottom but there are some clips.

Never worked on one of those before, so not much help.

but is there enough meat to drill and tap a few places to pull on?

if not drill or cut carefuly to keep from damaging the sealing surface of the lower unit housing and the break apart.

Have no idea how the drive shaft would come out.

service manual and parts breakdown will probably help

Thank youe99yam40. I will need to pull the driveshaft out. In order to do so I guess I need to pull the propeller bearing housing out. Can any person confirm this?

Off course if you can repair this 30 year old lower unit then by all means go for it....but as a possible plan B, maybe consider a descent used or rebuilt lower unit to bolt on your motor....just an idea...

I havethe parts. I feel I can repair it. Until I exhaust the heat and slide hammer method which is the nexI step II still have hope. The motor is in pristine condition. Just need some guidance on removing the drive shaft. Once the drive shaft is out and the heat, soak and slide hammer works or not,I think it will, then it will either be time for a used l/u or the end of this thread.
