DT2 1985 will not start
What I?ve tried/tested:
Good compression: 150 psi
Reset point and got decent spark: blue/red spark when sparkplug removed from cylinder
Replaced condenser with new
Ruled out shorting of kill switch when spark plug is properly inserted in cylinder; Checked for shorting of kill switch (which is now only a wire with bare end rather than grounded switch) but I found no possible shorting or exposure of wire
To bypass question of function of carburetor, manually sprayed gas or carb cleaner into cylinder several different times, but zero firing.
Read below for details of dying symptoms during last run
Either 1) not sparking under pressure or 2) improper fueling
1) No spark under pressure: Because of attempts to manually fuel failed?I assume that it is an electrical problem. I have tried to test the two coils in the magneto coil; primary shows no resistance and secondary shows approx. 5 (= 5,000?) resistance?.approx OK according to manual?.but maybe I?m wrong about that. Clymer specs suggest .9 to 1.22 resistance for primary coil and 5,200-6,900 resistance for secondary coil, but when I watched a video on youtube the gentleman suggested no resistance in primary coil for ?antique motors??is this my error? Would improper (0 rather than 1 resistance) suggest bad primary coil? If ohms = k and a reading of 5 = 5,000 then a 1.22 resistance would be undetectable in that reading format. Yes .0001 = 0 more or less.
Wire to spark plug when connected to spark plug in cylinder is short and thus mildly taught. Could this be a problem?
Any suggestions on what to try next?
2) Improper fuel: I have cleaned the carb and it appears to be working. I and more experienced friend tried direct manual fuel (spraying gas/oil mix or just carb cleaner directly into cylinder) but still no fire. Could I have done this wrong?
Dying symptoms during last run:
?? ran well for approx 30 minutes but then slowed down as if quickly reducing throttle and then died?has not started since then.
Old motor with no exterior cover. After being out all night and moist from dew in morning would not start. After an hour in sun and many attempts to start, she ran for an hour trip out to Angel Island (San Francisco Bay). On way home she started OK and ran well for approx 30 minutes but then slowed down as if quickly reducing throttle and then died?has not started since then?.plenty of gas was in tank.
