Under my renovation of the motor I opened up the trim/tilt assambly, for and replacement of o-rings & oil.
I cleaned up the motor/brush but did not open up the servo pump itself.

The trim/tilt unit works fine, but when raising the motor, the pump is working hard and a squeaking sound is loudly heard.
When lowering the unit no sqeaking sound is heard and everything seems to be fine.

I have not bleeded the system, can it be air inside the pump?
Or what else can cause this sound?
Is this sound normal or should some parts be replaced inside the pump unit?

First five sec is when raising, last five sec is lowering:

I have the same issue on an 85 year model. Works fine but makes that awful squealing sound, I have not taken anything apart just filled the reservoir with fluid. I was informed to just keep using it and leave it alone. Do not know if this is good advice or not.

But, the engine is around 28 years old so I'm gonna run it and not worry about. Maybe someone with more experinence will help out as I am curious also.

try putting a little grease on the tips of the rods that lift the engine

Good idea, sometimes we overlook the simplest of things. gbak, not trying to hijack your thread, just grease the wheel.

Grease is added in the zerk's and also all moving parts like rod's/shaft's are well greased.
Must be something else!

Can it be some "security" valve that is not shut, as it takes quite long time to tilt the motor up?

gbak, when you say it takes a long to tilt the motor up are you refering to trim or tilt speed? I dont have this problem for tilt.

I'll look at mine this weekend and see if I can figure something out. You got me curious now, ha.

Will check later this weekend, if it's both or just the trim that is slow.

Edit:
I have now found two faults and after fixing them the trim/tilt cylinders now lifts more rapidly.

-It was air in the system.
After bleeding a couple of times the squeaky noice have decreased, and are lower now.

-I was testing the pump with a 12V battery charger, which couldn't feed the motor enough.
After switching to a fresh 12V battery the motor went much stronger.
