Dual purpose GPS

Anyone have any suggestions for a GPS unit that I can transfer between car and boat? I'm looking for something waterproof, ability to be loaded with lake maps, and can be used in the car to give turn by turn directions when we go on trips.

Garmin GPSMAP 276C fits that description exactly. I am sure some later models have the same features.

I have been looking at the Garmin Nuvi 500 crossover. I don't need chartplotting ability. I think that it fits the bill.

I think the Nuvi 500 is what I'm looking for. For lake navigation, would I have to download maps specific to the lake that I am using?
