I have a small boat that I use for bass fishing. My question is can I mount 2 tranducers on the transom for 2 different fish finders without getting interferance. An a/b switch isn't an option as they are 2 different units.

The basic answer is no if they are on the same frequency then they will interfeer with each other. You can run either one by it self but not both at the same time.
Why would you want to do that anyway?

Think of it this way you and your buddy pull the boat into a cayon and notice you get a echo back when you blow a horn. So you time the echo to see how far away it is. You figure the distance by taking the time it takes to come back and multplying times the speed of sound in air. Now you both think that is neet so your both start blowing the same type horn at a very fast pace and try to time it. You will find out you can not tell which echo was your or tell anything about how far the wall is away. Now one of you gets a different horn at a much higher pitch. At this time you can again know how long it takes your sound to come back and can figure the distance.

Well this is exactly how a depthfinder works. It sends out a ping with a pitch of 200KHZ and waits for the echo to come back. It acutally gets back many echos, one from the bass in mid water, another from the bush on the bottom, another from the Perch staying near the bush, another from the rock sticking way up off the bottom and last one from the bottom. Each echo it gets back it marks a pixel on your screen. The big bass came back first so by timing it marks how deep the bass is and the same for each echo returned. After it get back all the return it send out another Ping and again waits.

Now what happens it you have two depthfinder sending out ping and getting back echos. Both units will try to mark every echo but since they are not times to each other the unit can not even tell how deep it is.

If you have different frequency units it will work.

also if one is on the bow trolling motor and the other is on the transom then in shallow water they will both work if you keep the sensitive low. As soon and you get in water deep enough that the cone angles over lap then again neither unit will work or be able to tell you the depth.

On a 19 foot bass boat with bow transducer angled some foward and the stern transducer angles a little to the stern then will work to about 30 feet if you do not turn up the sensitivity.

Re: Dual Transducers

Thanks that helped. I thought that was the case but wassn't sure. After I posted I found a spliter that may allow me to use both units a once.
