I have a 1977-78 15 ft. Kingfisher I recently bought and I am dressing up the neglected areas. This past weekend I ripped up the carpet and painted in some fresh topside paint... what a difference. My other plan was to get some rubbing compound and bring the shine back to the rest of the boat.
I carried her to the car wash and soaked and washed off years of grime and oxidation. I got her back to the house and started with the rubbing compound. The boat is beige with a brown-metallic top and a stripe down the side. The beige shined up like new and looks great. I wish I could say the same for the brown. It is more porous and gritty feeling. I worked with several compounds and a buffer for hours on just a select 2'x2' area and it shines a little better but always seams to end up with a dull haze. Waxing didn't help either.
I have looked around the net at products that claim to restore shine and color by simply wiping this liquid on and letting dry.
