I have been on this form for a couple of months now and regularly read throught the different forms. In doing so you would think I would have learned something. Last trip out I commited multiple infractions. My normal unloading proceedure is to back the boat in the water and let my 15 year old son back it off and have him hover away from the dock till I park the vehicle. This time the motor cranks up and we go through the ususal procedure. As I walk back from the parking spot I hear my son cranking the motor which has stopped. It won't fire so he tries to drop the kicker but can't get it down. Obviously he is having trouble and the wind is blowing him toward the other side of the lake which is only a hundred or so yards away. I take the short walk around the lake and catch him on the other side. When I look into the boat I see water on the floor and suddenly remember I forgot to put in the plug. $%#@$%. Jump in and install plug from outside of boat and start bilge. while waiting for boat to pump out I check to see why motor won't start. Pump primer, hit starter, nothing. Start to pull cowling off and notice gas line is disconnected. uufff. Felt sorry for the kid but he took it all in stride. He is pretty familiar with the boat but the fuel line and taking on water were subjects we hadn't, but since have, covered. Problem with the kicker is that when locked in the tilted position it turns and wedges the tiller so you can't move anything. That will be fixed. Also have a bow mount electric but mistake #4, power wasn't connected, another thing th kid now knows how to do. The worst part is I just printed out a check list that covers most of this and put it on the keyring but never bothered to look at it. Dumb, Dumb, Dumb.
